You know the mantel is always the first place I decorate our home for every season. Ever since we remodeled our fireplace, I just love decorating the space for each holiday.

And of course, the best holiday to decorate for is Christmas! Come see how we decorated our holiday mantel this year.

I love Christmas trees! So much that I try to put ours up as soon as the trick-or-treating is done. My husband always fights me about this. He insists I wait until after we eat the turkey to put it up.

Lately we have been compromising by me waiting until after his birthday (Nov 17) and him not getting mad that I start decorating before Thanksgiving!

This year I decided to extend my love of the Christmas trees to our holiday mantel! Because what is better than one Christmas tree? A whole farm of Christmas trees!

Christmas Tree Farm Sign

Once I had the idea for the mantel full of trees, I decided I needed a large sign to pull it all together. With a couple cedar fence pickets I made this Christmas Tree Farm sign in an afternoon.

Now I was ready to start creating my own tree farm. I started by adding any tree decorations I already had in my Christmas decor, which sadly was not that much.

Then I decided to DIY some trees to help keep my budget in check! I knew I could create a few different trees out of paper and wood. And both those mediums are perfect for the modern farmhouse style of our home.

Paper Decorative Christmas Trees

I started with these 3 easy paper trees. These easy table top trees can be made in just a few minutes with a Silhouette Cameo or Cricut cutting machine. You could also cut them by hand, but it might take a little longer.

Then to add some fun color to our decor, I decided to give the paper trees a couple coats of spray paint in some jewel tones. They are the perfect pops of color and if I don’t want to include those colors next year, I can quickly make new trees.

Reclaimed Wood Christmas Trees

Next I braved the cold, and used some of the reclaimed wood scraps, to make these adorable small wooden Christmas trees.

They are super quick to make because you don’t have to sand, stain or finish the wood. Just let the natural wood patina shine. But if you don’t have reclaimed wood, you can also make them out of any 1×2 boards and finish however you want to.

I loved them so much, I decided I needed 2 of them! And I will probably be making more too.

Repurposed Christmas Trees

Lastly I got creative with some faux greenery in our Christmas decor pile. I used some tiny garland and scraps off a simple pine garland to make some more natural looking Christmas trees for our farm.

I did add in a few bottle brush Christmas trees and ceramic Christmas trees that I found in the Target Dollar Spot (can’t resist!). And then our Christmas tree farm holiday mantel was done.

Or was it…

It all felt a little sparse to me. It was lacking the extra pizzaz I needed for Christmas.

Fireplace Garlands

In our pile of Christmas decor I had a garland that didn’t have a home. I tried it on top of the wood sign, no love. Then I tried it around the Christmas trees, still no love.

So I got crazy and added it below the mantel with a few Command hooks. It added the right amount of texture without taking away from the fun Christmas trees that I wanted to be the highlight of our mantel this year.

Then because I just couldn’t stop, I decided I needed some decorative garlands too!

I used a some pom pom sewing trim, some bead trim, and a piece of blue twine that I tied tiny bells to. These were looped from the mantel with more Command hooks.

It was perfect! Now if only I could keep the kids away from that garland… they can’t stop touching it.
