DIY Giant Rustic Wall Calendar with Printable

Share the fun!

This printable rustic wall calendar will help keep your family & life organized!

Updated with new calendars every year!

I am so happy that today’s project is finally done. It’s such an easy project, one that I have been meaning to do for a while now, but just never got around too. I actually designed the calendars back in February.

However, now that our kids are back in school and all those activities are starting up, I felt like it was past time to get our DIY giant rustic wall calendar up and ready to use.

I am one of those people who still likes to write things out on a calendar. I know I have a calendar that syncs to my husband on my phone, but I prefer to organize myself in writing.

For my blog I have a planner and large desk calendar, but for our home, I had nothing!

Okay, not nothing, I had a basic free gift calendar on my pantry door that had exactly zero room to write anything on it. Basically we used it to look at what day of the week an event was happening, so it was pretty useless.

Our son is in second grade this year and our baby girl is in preK, so now we have to try to organize our life around activities and school events. I kinda miss the easy days of toddlerhood.

But it’s fun having the kids grow and get excited about different activities and hobbies so we will press on and try not to forget things… like tomorrow’s picture day (why do they have to do picture day on a Monday!!! Worst idea ever!!).

I have been meaning to make a command center for our home. And of course a giant wall calendar was a must for the center of our command center so I can (hopefully) keep us organized.

I looked for a giant calendar to buy but they were expensive, not big enough, or ugly. No thank you!

I wanted something that would match all the rustic decor in our home and be big enough for me to actually use. Time for another DIY!

How to Make a Giant Rustic Wall Calendar

Supplies:

Start by printing the calendar pages at your local print shop as engineering prints.

These are black and white prints on 18×24 regular copy weight paper. They are not recommended for photo prints but work great for black and white calendars because they are made for detailed black and white printing and give you beautifully crisp lines. And bonus, they are usually less than $2 each.

Cut a piece of rustic wood to around 26″ long. Use whatever scraps you may have around that will match your home.

I used a piece of wood from an old pallet (the same pallet I made this chalkboard herb drying rack from). At first I used the piece of wood at the full width (about 4″) but decided it was too big so I cut it down on the table saw to about 2″ wide.

Line up all the calendars so the current month is on top and the remaining months are in order behind it. Make sure they are even all around the edges. You may want to use a couple paper clips or binder clips to hold them together.

Line the top of the calendars up along the back of the rustic wood, 1/2″ up from the bottom. Staple the calendars onto the back of the wood with a staple gun and staples.

Attach 2 sawtooth picture hangers onto the middle back of the piece of wood.

Measure the distance between the sawtooth hangers and attach 2 picture hanging nails into the wall where you want your calendar. Make sure they are level.

Hang your calendar and get excited to fill all those giant date squares with your families life!

You can stop here, but I felt like it was needing a bit more ump! Our calendar is on the wall in our hallway right outside our kitchen, but unfortunately so is our doorbell box.

To make it blend in even more, I decided to make the calendar look like it was hanging around the doorbell box. And it gave the calendar a little more style.

Press 1 or 2 wooden push pins into the wall centered above the calendar. Use a long piece of cotton string and drape it over the push pins, then wrap it around the edges of the rustic wood on the top of the wall calendar.

After you have wrapped it around as many times as you can, tie it off and cut the excess or tuck it being the calendar. Repeat on the other side.

Now it looks like your calendar is hanging from the push pins, but instead is is super secure with the picture hangers.

Isn’t it so pretty? I hope you enjoy your new calendar! And when the month is over, just tear off the old month and you are ready to stay organized next month too.

This week I will even be finishing off the rest of our command center so we can stay organized.

I plan to share it with you next Monday so stay tuned. Hopefully this DIY giant rustic wall calendar will help me stay organized so I can actually get it all done 😉

Have a wonderfully organized week,

Hello Melissa! I am so glad. I love our wall calendar too! I do love Pinterest for helping me find links, or put a reminder in your phone calendar with the link to pop up next year ;) Its the only way I remember my annual doctors appointments when I make them a year in advance!

Love this!! Am I able to resize it to 20x16 to fit in a frame? Just wondering if I can resize a pdf?

I am not sure if you can resize a PDF? Maybe if you try opening it in a graphic program and sizing it like a photo it may work.
